When Yuuki Kagurazaka released the Legendary Hero from the Holy Ark, he discovered that the Hero was actually Chloe Aubert from the future.
However, the person controlling Chloe’s body was not simply Chloe herself.
It was Chronoa.
Chronoa was a separate consciousness that had developed from Chloe’s future experiences, memories, and negative emotions.
To understand why Chronoa became so attached to Rimuru, it was necessary to understand the countless failures that created her in the first place.
Chloe Repeatedly Tried to Save Rimuru

Chloe’s story revolved around a time loop that lasted roughly two thousand years.
In the failed timelines, Rimuru eventually died. Chloe then reached a point where she could travel back through time and attempt to change the future. However, she could not simply choose when to travel through time.
Her unique skill, Time Traveler, activated when its specific condition was fulfilled. The condition was connected to the death of someone extremely important to Chloe, particularly Hinata.
When Hinata died, Chloe’s ability activated and sent their souls back roughly two thousand years into the past.
The anime later explained that Chloe had experienced this cycle repeatedly, with her future self repeatedly taking root in her younger self.
The problem was that Chloe kept reaching the same disastrous future.
Rimuru died.
The world eventually fell into chaos.
Hinata died.
And Chloe went back again.
The process was repeated countless times.
Each failure left Chloe with more emotional trauma. She accumulated grief, despair, anger, and other negative emotions until those emotions became an enormous burden on her consciousness.
This was where Chronoa’s existence began.
Chloe’s Time Travel Skill and Its Conditions

Time Traveler was not a normal time-travel ability that Chloe freely controlled.
When its condition was fulfilled, the skill activated and forced Chloe into another time leap.
Chloe herself later explained that she had experienced the same cycle repeatedly and that she could barely remember most of her previous journeys. The latest loop was the one she could remember most clearly.
The time travel also created an unusual paradox.
Chloe’s future self eventually became part of her younger self.
In other words, Chloe did not simply travel from Point A to Point B and change history.
Her future self became part of the past that eventually produced that same future self.
That was why Chloe described Time Traveler as a skill that looped.
And that loop was what allowed Chronoa’s existence to become intertwined with Chloe’s entire life.
How Chronoa Came to Exist

After countless failed timelines, Chloe’s negative emotions became separated from her main consciousness.
In one version of the chronology, Chloe used Unlimited Imprisonment, the power associated with Sariel, to seal those negative emotions inside herself.
This allowed Chloe to maintain a much more stable and pure personality instead of being overwhelmed by everything she had experienced.
But the emotions inside Unlimited Imprisonment did not simply disappear.
They eventually developed their own ego.
That ego became Chronoa.
Chronoa was therefore not an unrelated person who suddenly appeared in Chloe’s life.
She originated from Chloe’s own future memories and emotions. The later material described Chronoa as a Manas born from Chloe’s negative emotions and memories.
This also explained why Chronoa looked like Chloe and shared the same body.
She was essentially another part of Chloe that had developed its own consciousness.
How Chronoa Was Freed and Went Berserk

At some point in the time loop, Chronoa escaped from Chloe’s body.
The exact reason for her escape was not definitively established.
One explanation suggested that Unlimited Imprisonment could have been unable to maintain multiple sealed existences at the same time.
When Chloe used the ability to seal Veldora and subsequently fell into a deep sleep, Chronoa may have been able to escape.
Once Chronoa became separated, she eventually took control of Chloe’s body in one of the failed timelines.
And she went berserk.
Chronoa represented the destructive emotions that Chloe had accumulated through countless failed attempts to save Rimuru. Without Chloe’s normal consciousness keeping those emotions under control, Chronoa became extremely violent and destructive.
But then something completely unexpected happened.
Rimuru was still there.
How Rimuru Saved Chronoa

In that failed timeline, Rimuru somehow survived long enough to confront Chronoa.
He entered her inner spiritual world and encountered the consciousness that had been trapped inside Chloe.
Instead of simply destroying Chronoa, Rimuru reached her.
And this was crucial.
Chronoa had been created from Chloe’s accumulated despair, but when she encountered Rimuru, her destructive impulses began to disappear.
Rimuru had already become the person who represented hope to her.
He was the person she had desperately tried to save across countless timelines.
And now, even after everything had gone wrong, Rimuru was still alive in front of her.
That fact alone had a profound effect on Chronoa.
The later explanation of Chronoa’s behavior emphasized that she became much calmer when Rimuru was present.
Rimuru therefore did something much more important than simply defeating her.
He saved her emotionally.
He showed Chronoa that she did not have to remain trapped in the destructive cycle created by all those failed futures.
And that experience became one of the most important reasons for Chronoa’s attachment to him.
Chronoa’s Connection to Rimuru Was Different

This was the key to understanding Chronoa.
From Rimuru’s perspective, he had only recently met Chloe.
But from Chronoa’s perspective, Rimuru was someone she had already experienced across an enormous amount of time.
She had experienced timelines in which he died.
She had experienced the destruction that followed his death.
She had repeatedly traveled through time in an attempt to prevent that outcome.
And eventually, she encountered Rimuru again in a future where she had completely lost control.
Instead of killing her, Rimuru saved her.
That created a completely different emotional connection.
The Real Reason Chronoa Loved Rimuru

Chronoa did not love Rimuru simply because he was kind to her.
Her feelings were connected to everything she had experienced throughout the time loop.
Rimuru represented the person she could never successfully save.
But at the same time, he became the person who eventually saved her.
That contradiction made her attachment incredibly powerful.
Chloe repeatedly tried to save Rimuru.
Then, when Chronoa finally lost control, Rimuru saved Chronoa.
That reversed their roles.
And it explained why Chronoa reacted so strongly whenever she encountered him.
This also explained the famous scene in Ramiris’ Dwelling of the Spirits.
When Rimuru was summoning spirits for the children, the mysterious spiritual existence connected to Chronoa appeared before young Chloe.
Instead of attacking Rimuru, she flew directly toward him.
She kissed him and then gave him a disappointed look before turning toward young Chloe.
From Rimuru’s perspective, the scene was bizarre.
But Chronoa already carried the emotions of a future in which Rimuru had become incredibly important to her.
She was not looking at him as a stranger.
She was looking at the person she had already lost, desperately tried to save, and who had eventually saved her.
She then merged with young Chloe, allowing the time loop to continue.
The Web Novel chronology specifically described this mysterious entity appearing before young Chloe, approaching Rimuru, kissing him, and then merging with Chloe.
That was why her behavior made sense emotionally even though Rimuru did not understand it at the time.
Chronoa Was Also Part of Chloe

There was another reason Chronoa’s feelings for Rimuru were so complicated.
Chronoa was not completely separate from Chloe.
She came from Chloe’s own memories and emotions.
She was essentially the part of Chloe that carried the pain, despair, and experiences that Chloe herself had been unable to carry consciously.
So when Chronoa loved Rimuru, those feelings were also connected to Chloe’s own feelings.
This was why Chloe herself eventually developed such strong feelings for Rimuru.
The two personalities were different, but they originated from the same existence.
Chronoa carried the memories and emotions from the future.
Chloe carried the experiences of the present.
And Rimuru connected both sides.
Eventually, Chronoa became a true Manas, an independent informational consciousness.
Later, when Unlimited Imprisonment was finally erased, Chronoa was freed from the prison that had contained her.
Chloe had become strong enough by that point to completely accept Chronoa instead of rejecting her, allowing the two sides to merge into a more complete Chloe Aubert.
The Bond Between Rimuru and Chronoa

Chronoa’s attachment to Rimuru made much more sense once her entire history was understood.
She did not simply meet Rimuru and immediately become obsessed with him.
She experienced countless failed futures in which Rimuru died.
She repeatedly traveled through time in an attempt to change his fate.
Her accumulated grief and despair eventually became a separate consciousness.
That consciousness became Chronoa.
And when Chronoa eventually lost control, Rimuru was the one who reached her and calmed her.
So their relationship became a strange reversal.
Chloe spent countless timelines trying to save Rimuru.
Then Rimuru became the one who saved Chloe’s other self, Chronoa.
That was why Chronoa’s feelings toward him were so powerful.
For Rimuru, their relationship was just beginning.
For Chronoa, it had already lasted through thousands of years, countless failures, and multiple lifetimes.
And that was the real reason Chronoa was so attached to Rimuru.
