12 years after the last Black Bullet light novel was released, the long-dormant franchise is finally coming back.
KADOKAWA has officially announced Black Bullet: New World Order, a reboot of Shiden Kanzaki and Saki Ukai’s Black Bullet light novel series.
Publication will begin in November 2026, with the revived series receiving an unusually ambitious release schedule: two books will be published simultaneously each month for four consecutive months.
Even more importantly, this isn’t simply a reprint of the original novels.
KADOKAWA says the story will eventually move into a new chapter, giving Black Bullet another opportunity to continue the story of Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara.
A 12-Year Wait Is Finally Over
Black Bullet originally began publication in 2011 under Dengeki Bunko. The series later received a television anime adaptation in 2014, which introduced its post-apocalyptic world and characters to a much wider audience.
The seventh and most recent original light novel, Black Bullet 7: The Bullet of World Transformation, was released in July 2014.
After that, the series effectively went dormant.
For more than a decade, fans had little reason to expect the story would return.
Now, 12 years later, KADOKAWA is bringing the franchise back under the new title Black Bullet: New World Order.
The revival will feature newly drawn cover illustrations from original illustrator Saki Ukai, giving the series a fresh visual identity while retaining its original creative team.
The New Series Will Release Two Books at a Time
The revival isn’t being treated like a normal single-volume comeback.
KADOKAWA has announced a four-month consecutive publication schedule, with two books arriving simultaneously each month.
The first two volumes will be released on November 10, 2026:
- Black Bullet: New World Order 01 — Those Who Aim to Become Gods
- Black Bullet: New World Order 02 — VS. the Sniper of Divine Strategy
Two more volumes will follow on December 10, another two on January 8, 2027, and the final two currently announced volumes on February 10.
That gives the revival a significant amount of material almost immediately instead of asking fans to wait months between individual releases.
The Original Story Is Being Reworked
Perhaps the most interesting part of the announcement is what happens to the old seventh volume.
Rather than simply continuing directly from Black Bullet 7, KADOKAWA says the material will be completely rewritten as Black Bullet: New World Order 05, split into two parts:
Re: The Bullet of World Transformation and Justice & Injustice.
The publisher then states that the story will move into a new chapter.
This means New World Order isn’t simply a continuation of the original series after a 12-year break.
Instead, the reboot is revisiting and restructuring the story before moving forward.
That could make the new series particularly interesting for longtime readers, because the future of the story may no longer follow exactly the same path established by the original novels.
Rentaro and Enju Are Back
The revival is also reconnecting with the franchise’s anime history.
A special announcement video features Yuki Kaji and Rina Hidaka, who previously voiced Rentaro Satomi and Enju Aihara in the 2014 anime adaptation.
Their return provides a familiar voice for longtime fans while helping introduce the reboot to people who discovered Black Bullet through the anime.
The series is set in a future devastated by the parasitic creatures known as Gastrea.
Rentaro works as a Civil Security officer fighting these monsters alongside Enju, one of the children known as the Cursed Children.
That combination of post-apocalyptic action, supernatural abilities and the relationship between Rentaro and Enju helped make Black Bullet stand out during the early 2010s.
The Original Anime Is Coming Back for a Marathon
The revival is also being accompanied by a timely return to the anime.
To celebrate the launch of Black Bullet: New World Order, the original 12-episode Black Bullet anime will receive a marathon broadcast on ABEMA on October 3, 2026.
The broadcast is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. JST, and all 12 episodes will remain available to watch for free for two weeks after the broadcast.
The timing makes perfect sense.
The anime marathon arrives just over a month before the new novels begin publication, giving longtime fans a chance to revisit the original story while potentially introducing the series to viewers who missed it the first time around.
Could Black Bullet Get a New Anime?
Naturally, the revival raises another question:
Could this eventually lead to a new anime adaptation?
For now, there is no official announcement of a new Black Bullet anime season.
What has been confirmed is the New World Order light novel reboot, the return of the original anime for a marathon broadcast, the new promotional material featuring Kaji and Hidaka, and the planned transition into a new story chapter.
That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about what could happen next.
A successful revival could potentially create new opportunities for the franchise, but an anime continuation should not be treated as confirmed until KADOKAWA or another official source announces one.
The return of Black Bullet is remarkable because of how long the series had been dormant.
The original novels began in 2011. The anime aired in 2014. The seventh novel was released that same year.
Then came a 12-year gap.
Now the franchise is returning with a new name, new cover artwork, a rapid publication schedule, rewritten material and a promised new chapter.
For fans who have been waiting since the original series disappeared, Black Bullet: New World Order represents more than another light novel release.
It is a second chance for a series that many fans had assumed was finished.
And this time, Rentaro and Enju’s story may finally have a chance to go somewhere new.
