For the past week, anime fans have been trying to solve one strange mystery surrounding a project repeatedly teasing the return of “That Man Is Coming Back”.
The mystery has now been solved: the project is EAT-MAN: The Over Order, a new anime based on Akihito Yoshitomi’s science-fiction manga EAT-MAN.
The “That Man Is Coming Back” Mystery
The campaign initially revealed almost nothing about the project.
Two mysterious teaser videos featured falling screws and the message “That man is coming back,” while the campaign used the name “Over Order.” The lack of information immediately triggered speculation about which classic anime character could be returning.
One of the strongest theories turned out to be correct: Bolt Crank, the protagonist of EAT-MAN.
Bolt Crank Is Returning
The new project will once again follow Bolt Crank, the mysterious mercenary known for his bizarre ability to eat metal and use it to generate weapons.
The new anime is being produced by Studio Cab, while Masashi Ebara is returning as the voice of Bolt Crank from the previous anime adaptations. A teaser PV and visual have also been released.
A Return Decades After the Original Anime
This isn’t the first EAT-MAN anime.
The manga previously received television adaptations in 1997 and 1998, making the new project a major return for the franchise. The decision to bring Bolt Crank back after decades gives the new anime both nostalgia value and an opportunity to introduce the character to viewers who have never encountered the original series.
